PureField Ingredients Food Safety

For third consecutive year, Safe Quality Food Institute recognizes PureField’s food ingredients facility with 99+ rating

For the third consecutive year, the Safe Quality Food Institute has awarded PureField Ingredients’ food ingredients facility with an inspection rating of 99 or higher. The rating reflects the company’s strong commitment to producing safe, quality food ingredients in the United States.

PureField Ingredients, one of America’s most trusted providers of food ingredients, must pass annual, unannounced audits to certify that it meets SQF’s high standards for facilities that produce food and food ingredients. This year’s 99 rating follows a perfect rating of 100 last year at the company’s Russell, Kansas facility.

“From the first day you walk into our facility, we emphasize the importance of food safety to each and every employee. And then we emphasize it some more,” said Barb Elliott, PureField’s director of quality control and safety. “It’s the single most important aspect of our operations.”

Elliott works closely with Doug Funk, manager of the food ingredients facility, to make sure that every ingredient is carefully tested for quality and consistency. The company invests heavily in employee training and meticulously documents operating procedures that ensure and enhance food safety.

“Our SQF rating puts PureField Ingredients in an exclusive group of leading food companies. It is a validation of our efforts to produce safe food ingredients,” Funk said. “We take pride in the culture of safety we’ve established at PureField and our track record of success.”

PureField Ingredients is America’s largest producer of wheat protein. It distributes more than 50 million pounds of wheat protein each year to leading consumer food companies, meat alternative companies, and pet food manufacturers. The company also produces alcohol, biofuels and animal feed products.

The Safe Quality Food Institute is a division of the Food Industry Association. The rigorous certification process recognizes facilities’ commitment to food safety and operational excellence in food safety management. The SQF program is recognized by retailers, brand owners, and food service providers around the world.
